Stay with the story.
A continuous vertical-scroll reader, with reading progress, position restoration, chapter navigation, and image preloading.
SUMI is a self-hosted manga reader built for people who want a more considered way to browse, organize, and enjoy their stories.
Currently in private development. Not yet publicly released.
SUMI began as an independent software project: a manga library and reading experience that lives on your own device or trusted network, rather than a hosted service.
It brings together web-first interaction, personal library management, and compatibility with parts of the Mihon extension ecosystem. The focus is simple: make the everyday act of reading feel clear, calm, and yours.
Thoughtful essentials.
Nothing to get in the way.
A continuous vertical-scroll reader, with reading progress, position restoration, chapter navigation, and image preloading.
Organize titles into categories, manage chapters and bookmarks, and revisit your reading history.
Browse and search through supported Mihon-compatible extensions and manage trusted extension repositories from the web interface.
Chapter downloads with folder and CBZ storage, a managed queue, scheduled updates, reading statistics, and backup / restore workflows.
Illustrations are original graphic studies, not product screenshots. Extension compatibility varies by source; SUMI does not bypass interactive browser challenges and does not support every Mihon extension.
SUMI pairs a modern browser interface with a Python application core, persistent local data, and a dedicated JVM compatibility layer for supported manga extensions.
Architecture simplified for illustration. SUMI runs on your own host, not on this website.
SUMI has an implemented application and an ongoing development and testing workflow. The source repository remains private, and a public 1.0 release has not been announced.
The public website is a project introduction, not a hosted instance of the reader. SUMI has no built-in authentication and is intended for use only on a trusted device or network.
For questions about the project, development, or potential collaboration, you can reach the independent developer directly.
